"As a college professor teaching Spanish writing courses and conducting research, I am in constant need of looking up word meanings and searching for synonyms and antonyms. Although I use bound dictionaries while in my office (such as the latest edition of the "Diccionario de la Real Academia Espanola de la Lengua"), while I am mobile I consult the SlovoEd dictionaries I have installed in my PalmOne LifeDrive mobile manager (I have the Spanish monolingual and the Spanish-English-Spanish bilingual dictionaries installed). I am quite honest in saying that these dictionaries are one of the most frequently used pieces of software in my handheld. I use the Spanish monolingual dictionary in my classroom to clarify word use to my students (and to my peers, too!), and, when I am mobile, to look up words while reading and writing, or just when I want to expand my own vocabulary. I have found that the SlovoEd dictionary is a joy to work with. I have had no problems with the operation of the interface, no software glitches or automatic resets caused by the program. This can be a problem with software not designed or tested with the latest Palm OS versions. In terms of use, the dictionaries can be used via its own software interface, or placed in memory (memory resident). Word meanings can hence be invoked from the dictionary software itself, and also from the command bar (or using a hardware button of the user''s choosing). While resident, a user can swap dictionaries as well, a feature I find quite useful. The dictionaries also allow the user to add, edit, and delete entries, create flash cards and take flash card quizzes, add optional sound modules (which allows the user to hear the correct pronunciation of the selected word), and enable a "Word of a Day" feature. Finally, the SlovoEd dictionary allows the user to look up a selected word in another program. All the user has to do is select the word in another application (such as in Memo), activate the SlovoEd resident module (using the command bar or any other user- defined means); the dictionary will show the word and its definition (of course, if the dictionary database includes the word). All in all, I recommend this product to any handheld user who wishes to or is in need of consulting word meanings in his or her device. In particular, SlovoEd will appeal to users who need more than one dictionary but do not desire to install more than one dictionary interface."
